Jorden's Write up Assignment

My Profile-  I am Jorden . I am a senior at Flowery Branch High School. I am the oldest out of my siblings and my cousins. Because I am the oldest, I have always been surrounded by children.
Having to watch them at a family gathering or holiday dinner has let me learn about children. I chose pediatrics because I want to help children. I am always around them, and since "Children are our future," they deserve to be treated with the best medicine. There will always be a demand for Pediatricians because there will always be children.

My Internship- Finding a pediatrician to intern with is very difficult, because the patients are minors and they need extra permission from the parents or guardians. I did not find one, so I went with something better, A general physician. At Oakwood Clinic , in Oakwood, Georgia, Dr. Basil Anderson, practices general medicine. His patients do nothing but RAVE about how great he is and how I will learn a lot from him. So far I have. On a daily basis, we go from room to room visiting patients. After he talks to the patient, we discuss the issue while in the break room. Its a great learning experience because he is asking me questions and allowing me to think on my own to figure out the problem.

My future- Next year I plan on being in college. This mentorship will help me reach my goals by giving my field experience close to my main topic. I will be able to use what I've learned from Dr. Anderson in the real world. I have learned a lot of things about medicine that they aren't able to teach in medical school; Only information you learn on the job and being around a seasoned doctor .

  1. It sounds like you enjoy your mentorship a lot, and it also sounds like you're lucky to have a really good mentor. Its too bad that you're not getting to work with a pediatrician, but you're still gaining a lot of experience. It's really cool that Dr. Anderson tries to get you to figure out the diagnosis of patients. I am interested in what specific things you are learning that they aren't able to teach in medical school.
